Attend the Kickoff

Come to the kickoff meeting on February 29th at 7:00 PM where you’ll receive a genre, a line of dialogue, and a prop to be included in your film.

Create Your Film

Follwing the kickoff you’ll have 7 days to write, cast, shoot, and edit your film. Films must be submitted by 9:00 PM on March 7th.

Come the Parlor Room in Northampton on March 8th and 9th at 7:00 PM where we’ll screen all the films and judges determine the top 3 films.

Equipment and editing suites, courtesy of Northampton Community Television, will be made available to participants on a first-come, first-served basis. If your group is to use this equipment it is required they be trained in its use by the NCTV staff.

Kick-Off Event

The Kick-off Event is Monday, February 29th at 7pm at Northampton Community Television - 380 Elm Street, Northampton (around the back of the Northampton High School). Each group will be randomly assigned a genre of film at this meeting, as well as a line of dialog and a prop. At least one representative of your group must attend to participate. Your group will have from February 29th - March 7th to create a 1-5 minute film within the genre you received. We'll host a screening of all of the films and give out awards at the Parlor Room in Northampton on Tuesday March 8th at 7pm.

Content and Technical Details

Films must be between 1-5 minutes in length, including credits. Films over 5 minutes in length (including credits) will be disqualified. All films must stick to the genre assigned, and include the line of dialog and the prop specified at the Kick-Off Event. Content must be PG-13. Northampton Community Television will have final say regarding appropriateness and acceptability of a film.

You cannot use any copyrighted music, images, or audio in this film. There are a plethora of copyright-free, creative commons sources available online. Final export should be a high-quality digital file such as an .mov or .mp4. If you have any questions about this feel free to contact NCTV.

NCTV Equipment

Video and audio equipment as well as editing suites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. If your group wants to use this equipment, it is required they be trained by NCTV staff on how to properly operate the gear. Please see the class schedule or contact us to get trained before the Kick-off Event on February 29th. If you utilized NCTV equipment to produce your film, the end credits must include “Produced Utilizing Community Media at Northampton Community Television.”

Delivery

Submit your film online before or by the evening of Monday March 7th here. DVDs will not be accepted. Additionally, you can bring a flash drive with the video file to NCTV during open hours (10am-6pm on March 7th). NCTV will be examine films to make sure they conform to the guidelines and that there are no technical problems. If your video file does not work in any way you will be contacted. Screening 7 Day Film Sprint films will be shown on Tuesday, March 8th and 9th at 7pm at The Parlor Room on 32 Masonic Street in Northampton. At the end of the screening, awards will be given out for 1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place by a panel of judges. Invite your friends and team!
